Replantation of Total Degloving of Hand: Case Report

Tsai TM, Thomas BP, and Katsarma E. Christine M Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery, 225 Abraham Flexner Way #700, Louisville, KY, USA

ABSTRACT We report a patient with total degloving of hand up to the distal forearm level following a roller injury. Replantation of the degloved skin using an arteriovenous anastomosis by end to side anastomosis of radial artery at the wrist to cephalic vein in the degloved skin and also two veno-venous anastomosis was done. Since vascularity still remained inadequate, the replanted skin was de-epithelialized and buried in an abdominal pocket created for this purpose. The replanted skin survived till the distal interphalangeal joint level. The patient had reasonable function and cosmesis after wound healing.
