Thoracic Outlet Syndrome: Is There Any Treatment?

Á total of 26 patients (20 women and 6 men), suffered of neurogenic T.O.S , is reviewed, in a mean average of age 31,5 years (20-52years). The follow-up was 33,53 months (1-76 months). All patients presented with pain and half of them with neurological symptoms as well. These patients resulted to surgical decompression out of 132 patients reffered to our unit with TOS symptomatology during the last 7 years), The decision for operation was taken after the failure of the conservative treatment for more than six months. The procedure was in the majority of the cases supraclavicular decompression while in 3 cases decompression at more than one level was necessary. Nineteen out of the 26 patients resulted in perfect or very good results regarding to pain and the recovery of the muscle strength. Five patients resulted in fair results and two of them presented full recurrence of the symptoms during the first two months p.op (they refused to reoperate).
